일정
Our tour begins at the endlessly fascinating Dongmyo Flea Market, where old Seoul comes alive. As you wander through colorful alleyways packed with vintage clothes, cassette tapes, old toys, and unexpected treasures, your guide will explain the unique history of this market, which developed organically around a Confucian shrine to General Guan Yu. You’ll feel like you're walking through a living time capsule — part Seoul, part cinematic dream. Along the way, you’ll taste local street snacks, meet vendors, and see a side of Seoul rarely shown in guidebooks. Whether you're into retro fashion or people-watching, Dongmyo offers a feast for the senses and stories that connect you to ordinary, extraordinary Seoul life.
Next to the lively flea market stands Dongmyo Shrine, a peaceful and historic site often missed by tourists. Built in 1601, it honors Guan Yu, a Chinese general known for loyalty and bravery. The shrine was constructed with the support of the Chinese Ming Dynasty, marking a rare tribute to a foreign hero in Korea. This unique cultural site blends Korean Confucian architecture with deep historical ties between Korea and China. As you pass through its red gate and walk along quiet stone paths, you’ll feel a shift from the noise of the market to a calm, reflective space. Surrounded by old pine trees and traditional rooftops, Dongmyo offers a glimpse into the spiritual and political values of the Joseon era. It’s a powerful start to the tour—showing how even in the heart of the modern city, centuries of history remain alive.
From Dongmyo, we walk up to the Seoul City Wall Museum, located right at the base of the historic Seoul Fortress Wall. The museum gives you a clear and interactive understanding of the city’s long defensive history — how Seoul was once completely enclosed by stone walls, protecting the ancient capital during the Joseon Dynasty. We’ll explore exhibits and models that show how the city has changed over centuries. Then, we step outside and walk a short stretch of the restored City Wall, offering a unique view of old and new Seoul blending together. It’s a peaceful and reflective contrast to the busy market we just left behind.
From the Seoul City Wall Museum, we continue our journey to one of Seoul’s most iconic historical landmarks — Dongdaemun Gate, officially called Heunginjimun, meaning “Gate of Rising Benevolence.” Built in the 14th century as part of the original fortress wall, this majestic stone gate once served as the eastern entrance to the old city. Your guide will share stories about its role in defense, trade, and daily life during the Joseon Dynasty, as well as how it has survived fires, invasions, and modernization.
After taking in the beauty and scale of the gate, we walk a short distance to the ultra-modern Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) — a striking contrast to the ancient architecture you’ve just seen. Designed by world-renowned architect Zaha Hadid, DDP’s futuristic curves and silver skin represent Seoul’s creative future. Your guide will explain how this space has become a hub for design, culture, and innovation. We’ll explore its open plazas, art installations, and—if in season—the glowing LED rose garden. This moment beautifully captures Seoul’s spirit: where history and imagination live side by side.
