* The show has closed. Winner of the “Musical Next Award,” Paradiseunfolds against one of Korea’s most turbulent eras—from the late Japanese colonial period in the 1940s to the brink of the Korean War. It tells the tragic story of ordinary people swept up in the tide of history. Sisters Suk-hui and Sam-il, daughters of a pastor in Pyeongan-do Province, grow up alongside I-gang, a boy cherished like family. As they pursue their dreams—Suk-hui as a doctor, I-gang as a freedom fighter, and Sam-il torn between love and loyalty—the upheavals of history drive them onto diverging, fateful paths. Through lyrical music steeped in Korean color, the show captures the heartbreak of youth whose dreams and ideals shatter under ideological conflict, leaving audiences with a haunting impression of history’s scars.
